Release of Intel’s Haswell desktop processors

On the 18th June 2013, Intel launched its new Haswell processors. These latest i5 & i7 series processors utilise a new LGA1150 socket so unfortunately you cannot just upgrade your Ivy Bridge LGA1155 processor because the socket is physically different. Information on the different type of desktop CPUs available is in this blog post.

Currently there is no i3 Haswell desktop processor available, which means that customers will need to use the older Pentium or i3 Ivy Bridge processors for lower performance applications.
The main advantage of the newer processor is improved performance with greater efficiency at the same price point. They also come with Intel HD 4600 graphics, which has DirectX11.1, OpenCL 1.2 and OpenGL 4.0 support.
Overall graphics performance is much improved with noticeably higher frame rate over the last series, which featured the HD4000 graphics package. Certainly Intel is making big advancements in design of their mobile processors so new models are sure to follow these before long; keep checking back for a new blog-post when they are released.

We have already incorporated this new series into our two new x87 chipset based racks which can be found in our rack product section
