    Ryzen CPUs now available in G2 PCs

    Since the release of their first generation of new CPUs last year, we’ve been waiting for the chance to get our hands on AMD’s Ryzen. Now we’re excited to confirm that Ryzen processors will soon be joining our growing line-up of Rack PCs.

    What is Ryzen?

    Ryzen is AMD’s latest generation of core processing units (CPUs), and was one of the most highly anticipated launches in the chipmaker’s history. Prior to its unveiling, there was a long wait for AMD to develop processors on a smaller transistor size, with the last notable upgrade occurring back in 2012. Having said that, Ryzen was a massive curveball, and has really raised the bar of what to expect from CPUs, particularly at such a cost-effective price point. The new 14nm architecture is extremely power efficient, and now also boasts simultaneous multithreading – suffice to say, these chips are fast, furious, and they mean business.

    Why Ryzen for G2?

    While historically we’ve implemented Intel’s diverse range of high-performance chips into our units, as AMD have upped their game we’ve taken a closer look at their products and believe that Ryzen is more than comparable. With an overwhelming demand from our customers, we have therefore introduced the CPUs to fulfil this requirement and provide greater choice and flexibility across our machines.

    Currently, the option for a Ryzen CPU is only available in the R718X model of our 1U PC. Rest assured, though, we will be extending availability to ensure that the processors can be applied to any of our PCs in the near future. The 1U PC at present uses the Ryzen 7 1800x, an 8-core and 16-thread chip with a base clock of 3.6GHz and a boost of 4GHz. It also totals a combined overall cache of 20MB, and a modest TDP of only 95W – impressive specs indeed. The 1800x was a huge step forward for AMD; an incredible innovation that has really proved itself as a gamechanger.

    With Ryzen’s first generation finally finding its way into our PCs, we’ve also now got our eye on the 2nd generation of chips, which were launched earlier this year. If you would like to learn more about how we’re implementing AMD’s Ryzen CPUs into our units, please get in touch today.

    Great things come in small packages: the new Tiny PC

    After revealing our intentions to make big changes to our Tiny PC back in November, we’ve been working hard to update our popular Mini machine with a brand new design, and can now confirm that it is available to order.

    We frequently revisit our units with a fresh perspective, always looking to add further value and functionality to our existing line-up by meeting the evolving needs of our customers, as well as creating innovative new products that shake-up the market. That in mind, we’ve launched the new-look Tiny PC to become far more advanced and powerful than it has ever been before.

    Its small form factor design and compact case are deceptive, now allowing for a full height PCIe x16 slot, a diverse range of impressive processing options, and the choice to add an RS232 serial port to improve connectivity. The Tiny’s name also extends to its minute noise levels – fanless options make it the perfect fit for sound-sensitive environments, and what’s more, the unit is still wall mountable, and ideal for easy installation.

    Maintaining some of the key features that saw its rise to popularity when it first debuted, the new Tiny PC is bursting with exciting capabilities:

    Bringing Dual HD-SDI to 7th gen NUCs

    Recently, we’ve received numerous requests for customisations to our NUC units that allow for the addition of Dual HD-SDI input cards. As the first company in the world to rackmount the NUC, our unique chassis for Intel’s new 7th gen NUCs makes this easily achievable, enabling us to provide the high-performance systems our customers require.

    What is Dual HD-SDI?

    Dual high-definition serial data interfaces (HD-SDI) are frequently used for professional broadcasting and video purposes, and as such are regularly called upon to help with the delivery of video conferencing applications and streaming services. These interfaces typically provide a much purer signal than similar alternative solutions, and use coaxial cables that have BNC radio frequency connectors attached. These cables are very simple to run, particularly over long distances, with fibre optic variants allowing for more far-reaching transmissions.

    Why G2 for Dual HD-SDI?

    By modifying our NUC units, we’ve created a device that makes input for HD-SDI not only possible, but easy. To provide sufficient slots for the interfaces to connect to, we’ve actually bulkhead-mounted BNC connections to the rear of the 7th gen NUC units, fixing these in place on the machine’s panel as opposed to needing these on the coaxial cabling.  This makes for a far more streamlined and fuss-free user experience, allowing much greater flexibility for HD-SDI input from Intel’s highly reliable Mini machines.
