Small But Mighty: Why We’re Bringing AMD Ryzen to Our Smallest System

Meet our newest model the Bantam CR9

Compact, cost-effective, and now, powered by AMD Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series processors. Until now, our smallest systems have always run on Intel. Driven by performance it’s a change triggered by a deeper understanding of what our users need. Our customers demand systems that are reliable, efficient and built with care.

The Power of Small: Bantam CR9

  • Bantam CR9: Our tiniest chassis—half the size of a standard 1U. Now infused with serious AMD muscle.

And here’s the really exciting part:

Why AMD, Why Now?

We’ve trusted Intel for years. But AMD’s Ryzen lineup now offers unmatched performance-per-watt and compatibility across Ryzen generations, including standout CPUs like the 65W and Ryzen 9 7900.

That makes the switch a smart move:

  • Greater efficiency
  • Lower power bills
  • Quieter machines
  • No bump in cost

Real-World Reliability: Tested and Proven

When we sent a pre-launch Bantam CR9 into the field for a customer deploying digital signage across dozens of retail sites – space was tight, cooling was inconsistent, and energy budgets were under scrutiny.

They needed it to:

  • Play 4K without stutter
  • Stay cool after hours of use
  • Tuck discreetly behind wall mounted screens
  • And not drain power like a mini jet engine

Specs tell one story. But field performance is the true test. That’s where the Bantam CR9 earns its keep.

But raw performance is only half the picture. How well does it hold up over time? We carefully engineer machines that work hard, last longer, and fit where others won’t. That’s why our customers keep coming back.

FAQs

What is the Bantam CR9 system and how is it different from traditional rackmounts?
The Bantam CR9 is G2 Digital’s smallest 1U rackmount system, featuring a thin Mini-ITX motherboard and AMD Ryzen 7000 or 9000 series CPUs. Two systems can be mounted in a standard 1U rack, yet deliver high-end performance with lower power and heat output.

What other mounting options do you have?
The Bantam can be wall or Vesa mounted. The system is also suitable as a mini-PC direct on your worktop. If you would like to discuss a more custom mounting solution, please contact us.

Are these systems compatible with AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs?
Yes the Bantam CR9 supports AMD’s Ryzen 7000 and next-gen Ryzen 9000 series, including models like the Ryzen 9 7900 with 65W TDP.

Can these systems handle 4K video playback?
Absolutely. The Bantam CR9 has already proven itself in commercial deployments, smoothly handling continuous 4K playback in tight environments.

What are the cooling capabilities in small enclosures?
These systems are designed with smart thermal management and low-power CPUs that stay cool – even during extended use- making them ideal for space-constrained environments.

Do the systems support ECC DDR5 memory?
Yes. The compact platform used supports ECC DDR5 for better stability

Where are these systems most used for?
They’re ideal for retail signage, edge compute environments, compact AV deployments, and anywhere you need full performance in a tiny footprint.

What is the advantage of AMD Ryzen in small form factor systems?
AMD Ryzen delivers excellent multi-core performance, lower power consumption, and cooler operation – perfect for compact builds where space and energy efficiency are key.

How does G2 Digital test their hardware before launch?
All systems undergo rigorous real-world testing in demanding environments to ensure they deliver on reliability, efficiency, and performance.
